Hit-and-run on the German Autobahn

A 37 year old female manager became the victim of a hit-and-run crime on the German
Autobahn, surviving the accident, which had been caused by a drunk driver. Left behind in
her burning vehicle, she was later found in terrible circumstances, saved by an ambulance
and taken to a hospital.

Doctors’ expectations following the accident were devastating, with the manager’s head and
brain injuries taking away all hope that she would ever be able to speak or interact with
others again, along with the likely outcome that she would be unable to move.

Although faced with several catastrophic diagnoses after awakening from a coma, the young
woman made the decision to continue her life as she always had – with a fight. Along every
step of the way, immediately following her awakening from the coma, she has been
supported by Janssen + Maluga Legal.

A major part of the process was convincing the insurer that, despite the initial higher than
average therapy costs, every possibility for rehabilitation was a necessary and important step
for the client and the lawyer’s team.

Throughout her five year battle, the young woman fought hard to achieve autonomy in her
life and to regain her speech and her intellectual abilities. While physical and psychological
effects could not be avoided, through tight cooperation with Prof Dr Gerhard Janssen, she
managed to set achievable financial and social targets, which gave her the hope to live a life
filled with dignity, independent from social benefits and third parties.

The case’s outcome was extremely important for the client not only due to the necessity of
receiving an extensive lump sum payment but also due to the monthly payments, paid
according to her needs, which would ensure her financial stability for the rest of her life.
