Amputated leg due to car incident - Janssen + Maluga Legal Review by Client

In 2013, I worked for a supermarket delivery service. Before the accident I was very active and into sports. My job consisted of heavy lifting and was physically demanding. On 8th August 2013, I was unpacking groceries from the rear end of a delivery truck that was parked on the side of the road. While I was unpacking, I was suddenly struck from behind by an approaching car. I remained conscious throughout the incident. I recall lying on the road with intense pain in my lower limbs.

The accident resulted in an amputation below my left knee meaning that I will be bound to a wheelchair for the rest of my life. There are many injuries I have suffered due to the incident. Whether it’s a lack of balance, extremely limited mobility or PTSD as a result of the accident I cannot be totally independent and require a carer.

I required legal representation to support my claim and to receive a settlement for the injuries and physical limitations resulting from the accident as well as the drastic impact that the accident had on my life.

For the first 3.5 years I was represented by two different law firms who advised us to settle on $700,000. In April 2016, JANSSEN + MALUGA LEGAL (JML) worked alongside one of the previous law firms and in April 2019 JML became my sole legal representative. Through the dedication and tireless effort of Prof Dr Janssen, JML found medical professionals to accurately evaluate my injuries and increased my settlement.

Prof Dr Janssen didn’t just take the first offer; JML attended several pre-trail conferences to get me a settlement significantly higher than what was previously offered. Thanks to the diligent work of everyone at JML I received a settlement of $2.71 million. This new settlement means that I can afford the future care and physiotherapy I require and cover the medical and additional living costs resulting from the accident.
